We are returning again to one of our favorite tropical locations and our 2024 “Best of Costa Rica” tour will focus on popular birding locations in the lowlands, middle elevations and highlands of this small, but bird-rich Central American country with a species list in excess of 800.

Each location we visit will provide a different variety of birds and we’ve scheduled time to enjoy each at a comfortable pace. Other than our arrival and departure nights, there are no one-night stays on this tour! In addition to its fantastic diversity of resident species and wintering North American breeders, Costa Rica’s well-developed tourism infrastructure makes it an ideal location for a rewarding and “no worries” tropical birding vacation. All of our comfortable lodges and hotels – even the one near the San Jose airport – offer good birding right on the grounds. You will be able to step outside your room and watch birds. No need to depart before dawn to begin each day’s birding!

Our tour will again be guided by Vernon Campos and Kip Miller and group size will be limited to 10 participants. Kip has been coordinating and leading trips in Costa Rica for several decades and Vernon is knowledgeable in all things Costa Rican (because he is Costa Rican!) and is an extremely popular and outstanding local birding tour guide.

This small, friendly Central American country is home to an incredible diversity of birds and features a well-developed tourism infrastructure that makes travel easy and comfortable. All of our lodges are located in excellent birding locations and most feature gardens or feeding areas where many colorful birds can be seen and photographed up close. Multitudes of hummingbirds, tanagers, toucans, trogons, parrots and much more!
